WACOM Bamboo

My Bro came down a week back, and he gave me a wacom bamboo... Couldnt use it till now because my desk wasn't clean. So one sleepless night, i finally got around to cleaning my desk and setting up the tablet. And here is my first specimen..... Its the cover scene (draft version) for the new game I am working on..... Whose murder is it anyway?

The real art-work will hopefully be done by my artist friend Vipin...

Sketchy sketching :-)

So the question (as always is... why didnt I post anything for the past few days???

Sketching
=======
Well basically trying my hand at sketching and its a lot harder than I imagined!
I hope to bring out a small childrens booklet just to test my sketching skills. The
Book will be about Krishna. With an illustration for every page!

I hope to achieve an illustration rate of 1 new scene every 2-3 days. Also I am seriously thinking
of buying a tablet! My drawings are bad enough with pencil! downright awful with mspaint !

Reading
======
In other news, started reading a book for all we skivers out there... "The Four-Hour Work week" . It really echoes my feelings for the last few weeks... which in condensed form maybe communicated as..
" Is what I am doing really what I want to do for the rest of my life ?and... is there an alternative? "
The book gives some really attrocious (but supposedly tried and verified) options to the mid-life crisis. More on that later... be warned.. I may not have time to update this blog if I actually go ahead with some of the stuff mentioned in that book....

Post 3 weeks later...
"...Eda couldnt update the blog as I was sky-diving in the himalayas..." ;-)

Life

The Face of the Hero!

My next game is based on the stories of Krishna from the Srimad Bhagavatham. This is actually a project for a freind of mine, who holds childrens programs and wants an interactive way of telling the Kids the stories!

Well as of now I have only decided on the first scene/mini-game.
The background will be a road in Vrndavan (where Krishna lives). There will be village folk carrying pots containing butter, walking down that road.  Our Heroes task is to break as many pots as possible and steal the butter!

I thought the first thing to do was to decide on a face for my Hero. I had a look around at all the Krishna drawings available and came up with the following sketch...

Following the curves...

This is an idea that hit me on my way back from office!

The idea is that there is a hidden waveform on the screen.
You have a marker which goes red when you lose the waveform. Otherwise it is green.
Green to red transition causes a loss of life!
Every point of the curve you uncover gets you one point. You have to get 450 to win!

Bugs:
If you mark a point further to the right you cant mark any previous to that.
So start from the left corner and go right!
There are 2 dots in the beginning... focus on the green ONLY, the other is a dot I cant get rid off!!

And then there was a flash(TM)...

I am not very good at persevering so I need to have some results fast...
So my aim is to learn game programming by making games.

Looking at all the options, the language that appealed to me was Flash.
The reasons are
1. I can focus on the game and dont need to worry about the rendering
2. Its easy to make graphics for flash (you just draw them!!)
3. Its a scripting language (how tough can that be)

So here is my first game... In flash1.1!! The invincible Pong.... . (means you cant win).

aStatementOfPurpose

This blog is my travelogue into the game world.
Further it is also my life-line, as long as it continues my journey continues... when it stops.. the expected has occured...

And so I set forth...
